Wendy is a wonderful dog that lived in the house I stayed in while I was in LA. My friend rescued her, and saw in her, what so many women would. She was a little rough around the edges, lucky to have a second chance. She was terrified of men, and would seek comfort from women, myself fortunately included. When you were deemed safe, you couldn’t do anything without her reminding you she was there, loving you.
And the pain I saw whenever I left, only drew me closer to her. I was actually sitting on the bed, trying to write, when I sang the first melody to her. ‘Who’s breaking your heart now, Wendy?’ With humour at first, but her reaction was so enthusiastic, the song practically wrote itself. Really, she should have a credit.
