Prolegomena to Home Music Ontology

It might be thought that the distinction drawn between home and house music is aberrant and indicates nothing more than a clumsy translation. Inevitably, both are using very similar constituent parts, and what is more important, both are embedded in complex social practices, some of which are narrowly musical and others more widely cultural, from which they cannot easily be abstracted. Instead of something being distinguished from something else, imagine something that distinguishes itself—yet the thing from which it distinguishes itself does not distinguish itself from it. The author doesn’t ask listeners to reveal it, but would suppose a case where one would use these three pieces as a starting point for home music phenomena appreciation.
