I finally wrote competent synthwave, wowee
All jokes aside, I felt like making something fun and silly, something I absolutely sucked at doing. That was Synthwave. I sucked at creating simple melodies and simple everything, really, and could never make it interesting to myself...until I learnt it was all in the sound design. I'd just barely gotten my hands on the XV-5080 and had already started making patches for its monstrously flexible engine, and it was fun and inspiring. But this song didn't kick off until I found the "80s RetroSyn" preset patch on the XV-5080, that kicked off my song. I wrote a very simple melody that was easily varied upon, and was easily harmonized with -- and that's what started this song in the end. Sometimes a good preset is truly all you need to start a song, I guess!
