Sun hides in the overcast skies
Unease and dread, a cloud in their minds
Deep inside, a pit of despair
Husks have returned, they’re simply not there
Skin dyed, even the whites of their eyes
Washed, reminiscent of their demise
Scrubbing head, feet and hands
Living dead returned from distant lands

Who decides when to rise, who decides, when to die

Revenants lay, open eyed, all day
Humming softly, not a word will they say
Night falls, they rise with the moon
Villagers call, they wander into gloom
Forest dark, unknowingly led, a flock
Sacrificial lambs, following like human stock
In a pit thrust, bodies beaten and crushed
Bone shards float in the black fluid of their mush

Opening dawn, half the village is gone
Stained slayers return, automatons
Hermit hides as they march by
Slips into the wood, won’t turn a blind eye
Moving slow, searching above as below
He sights an obsidian pool overflown
Cold sweat, seeing sylphlike silhouettes
Dusk has arrived on all sides he’s beset
