My heart beats with the passion
Of Hampton, the love of Stokely...


I am a marvel

in the silence of my history
We can be love as long as the gap
Between my knowledge of western texts
And of my self and my culture
Remains as wide as the Pacific
Entrenched in cognitive dissonance
Leaves you slave
to racially charged disciplines
That enslave and control
the minds and souls of citizens
Treated as second class in a land
Built on their backs
You continue to step on the cracks
And mother earth is riving in pain
And though you may make no claim of owning a people
It behooves you to own clarity
That you benefit from a system and history
Of ancestors that did
Just as my people own the trauma of the scars of the ancestors that were
Of broken necks, charred and dismembered bodies and babies ripped from wombs
As examples of what happens when the complexity of one's complexion
is just too threatening
to ones election to higher court...
