Yet holstered

As second nature as home
Not too often is there a moment
Where you feel like
your last breath beckons
Even in the dark
Perusing spaces as well known
through muscle memory
As breath itself
The notion of last days seems unassuming
Unsuspecting
To turn corners of dimly lit stairways
And in the blink of an eye face the light
Post the flash of unannounced, unwarranted, unloaded gun barrels
When ....
The flash of a light would have been enough to still see today
It could have been me
In cold blood
Facing the ceiling
As the blue blooded,
green spirited culprit
Made his way around your body
Not in search of help,
In search of support in your favor
But in search of an alibi in his
His bullet shell was far more important
Than your spirit's shell
Fear ensued
Power abused
A life lost
A brother gone
A father taken
A son snatched...
From this life
Justice is not just conviction
Justice is incarceration
for heinous crimes against humanity...
So what little is thought of black lives
And the human context
When incarceration is a debated consideration?
THIS is the reality of "post racial America"
