Heavy Processing is proud to present Ma Brain, the new two-track EP from DJ Waistdown
Known for his fluid blend of UK garage, dubstep, and bass-driven techno, DJ Waistdown (a.k.a. Joe, one half of the dual-alias force behind RU) returns with a release that’s as thoughtful as it is downright fun — a mirror of emotional weight and dancefloor release.
The title track, “Ma Brain,” is a deep, funky trance-not-trance number that channels hardgroove pressure through a fogged-up lens. Pulsing basslines and hypnotic synth patterns lock you into a groove that feels both euphoric and introspective — think mind-loop territory with swing in the hips.
The B-side, “Asscheeks,” flips the tone completely. A Wu-Tang-inflected hardgroove weapon laced with the unmistakable vocals of the original Method man, a name familiar to ravers and pirate radio heads alike. The result is what Waistdown calls “the cheekiest groove you’ve heard in years.” It’s big, bold, and strictly for the front left crew. Parental guidance: strongly advised.
“This release came from a heavy few weeks,” Joe says. “I needed to make something that held that weight, but also something that didn’t take itself too seriously. That’s always been the balance I chase — depth and bounce.”
With Ma Brain, DJ Waistdown hits that sweet spot: introspective club music that still goes off. A release made for thinking dancers and dancing thinkers.
