Morning Milk by Heavy Moss

“We recorded this song late last year in Kyle’s shed. It was our first rehearsal as a band, and we were giddy on this feeling of starting something new that was immediately working. We had some mics haphazardly setup and we pressed record. Sam later re-recorded the drums at home because I did a shit job the first time. Then we all squirrelled away adding our own overdubs remotely.

The lyrics to this song probably read like I’m going through a mid-life crisis. Fortunately, I’m not. The song was written 10 or so years ago when I was a brooding, early 20-something, thinking I was being original writing a song about my first comedown. Unlike most of my songs written in my early 20s, this one has stuck with me. It doesn’t make me cringe and it’s meaning to me has changed as I’ve (hopefully) grown up.

It was originally recorded and released in 2014 with my project Atolls. It took me a while to come around to the idea of re-recording it, but, in this new context; in a new band, it feels right. It’s like new organs to the old bones, and I’m so pumped to be recording and playing with them.”
