Blue Drag by Greg Ruby and Rich Sikorski
The tracks on this "double single" feature the laid-back crooning of Rich Sikorski with interweaving melodies and hot solos by Evan Price (violin) and Greg Ruby (guitar) with Michael Gamble (bass) and Steve Rice (accordion) keeping the rhythm section swingin’. Two versions are released here: one sung in English (Blue Drag) and one sung in French (La dance du diable.)
“Blue Drag” was recorded twice in Paris in the spring of 1935 – once by Freddy Taylor and his Swingmen from Harlem (with Oscar Alemán) and once by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. We wanted to pay homage to both – Taylor’s vocals and the bands intricate harmonized melodic work but interpreted with Hot Club instrumentation. Our friend Jenny Cox took the English lyrics and interpolated them into French. It turned out wonderfully and I am certain you will enjoy it.
