Father Figure is the genre-blending project of Matt Weishaupt and Matt McLaren—two longtime collaborators from Albany, NY, who fuse Golden Era hip-hop, glitch-hop, jamtronica, and experimental bass into a unique sonic signature.
Matt Weishaupt started his musical journey as a rapper at 16, later producing beats under aliases, including Spliff Huxtable, before adopting the Father Figure name in early 2016.
Father Figure is known for opening for prominent names in the EDM scene, such as CloZee and Of The Trees, and has released music with labels like Aspire Higher and Mallabel Music.
They draw inspiration from both the jam scene and the golden age of hip-hop, mentioning artists like J Dilla, Pete Rock, and DJ Premier as influences
