good morning ladies and gentlemen. yesterday I finished recording an album called Female Cartesia and today I finished mixing it, surprisingly much faster than I thought it would take me to do such a thing. so i've heard it in full twice now through the said mixing process and here are my thoughts. I think its pretty good and definitely has my best guitar playing in a long time. its a bit weird of a concept to do a 2 hour nonstop improv record all by yourself but I pulled it off OK in the end. for a long time I was worried, and would then get stuck in the mixes of the first track over&over. by the end I realized that I didn't need anything fancy. automation saves the day, but i don't recommend spending near entire 2 days worth doing it, soo thats 2 hours for the faders, 2 hours for the panners, 2 hours for the mixdown, and hell that's not even mentioning the long recording sessions, unrealized and unused takes, catastrophic technical failures (of which there were many), to be honest its a miracle I finally finished the thing. my friends would always ask me if I was working on it and when it would be done and my answer was always "no" and "whenever it's done" and now it's done. and the biggest reason is that I killed a lot of the initial ambition. now don't get me wrong, being ambitious is a great thing. but my original plan was to have four guitar tracks on top of each other!!! what the hell was I thinking?? that would have made the mixing a fucking nightmare, not to mention that the two at once already partially was, but I was going to record all this in STEREO too... yeah fucking right. i was out of my mind. so when I finally had the project file open for more than 30 minutes earlier this year, I made the smart decision to not cause myself any more pain than I was already going through, considering track 1 wasn't even finished off this 4 track album. while it would have been nice to do that (i was probably trying to emulate another project I did called Broken Hearted Pagoda), I think it would more or less become too blurry of a sound, if that makes any sense. so anyways, doing this on my own pace, within the next couple months the album is finished, praise the lord in heaven above!! i'm happy with the results and I hope someone else will also like it. though the chances are slim but eh, at least i put something into it, and got something back out. either way, the mission is accomplished. i've been asked if there will be physical releases and the answer is NO for two reasons, the first being "nobody buys the physical releases" and the second being "it's a bit long and costly for physical releases". so I encourage you to bootleg the hell out of this thing, and if you like it you can throw some money at me. if you don't then don't worry about it! overall I think I will wait for a long time and then lie in a meadow and think about rope swings. love, your pal, kait.
