Electronic by Gemma Farrell Quintet

Gemma Farrell Quintet’s Electronic explores the intersection of jazz fusion and modern jazz through a fantastic collection of tracks that showcase Farrell’s bold and imaginative compositional style, as well as her skill on saxophones and EWI. Gemma’s skillfully channelled influences manifest in delightful and intriguing ways throughout the album. From the Brecker-esque EWI shout choruses on Abigail’s Song, One for Bucket Hat, and Tension, to the more contemplative modern jazz reminiscent of contemporary masters such as Logan Richardson and Marquis Hill presented in Sixth Sense, and finally, to the exciting synthesizer-charged rush of the closing track, Aberdeen Street, it is clear that Gemma possesses both an open ear and an open mind. Her creative vision is masterfully executed by Sam Hadlow on trombone, Dan Garner on guitar, Kate Pass on bass, and Ryan Daunt on drums, who deliver each track with clarity and conviction.

Gemma Farrell is an Australian saxophonist who has a Masters of Music from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Jazz Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium.
