My first foray into producing an album. After 36 years of playing drums with so many incredible musicians, I granted myself permission to make a record on my own terms, choosing how and with whom to express myself at my instruments. I discovered self-confidence through making an album of (mostly) duets. Some collaborations were construed specifically for the album and others as the opportunities arose. For me, making music is always about the people I’m making it with – it’s anthrophonic co-musicking. Deepest thanks to all my musical interlocutors on Permission Granted for your artistry and generosity of spirit.
