COMPULSIONS mixtape by GalacticSON

COMPULSIONS came about in the most random and important of places. Just in the car listening to some instrumental track and little ideas would pop into the brain. I felt compelled to write and record my own takes on inspiring songs. These abstractions of other works led to me creating some of my own. Experimenting with non traditional forms of song writing.

Written largely between 2008-2012, they culminated with the birth of my daughter and family. It was like me revealing mysel as I truly am: flawed, yet yearning for love, so afraid of death, too weary of the American monotony. . . so do something.

Most of these songs covered universal themes of any life really besides my own: the death of my father, meeting my wife, the birth of Amelia, and the accruement of memories and aging. A slight sign of a wrinkle, a couple gray hairs, a rounder version of youth, changing till you do not recognize yourself, and others do not either.

This is a mixtape, some of the songs i wrote, others were not of my entire creation, and utilized without permission from the artists. I'm simply paying tribute to their brilliance and the happiness they have given me thru their sounds and creative genius.

I toiled and tossed around these songs and ideas obsessively for years now, and I'm thankful to all those who helped inspire them and were there for me throughout it all. You obviously know who you are.
