This recording expresses all the horror and confusion that gripped me on a sunny September Tuesday morning in 2001.

That morning I woke up around 10a, went for a bike ride to my regular Tuesday morning drawing session. As I rode through my normally bustling neighborhood, the total silence was eerie, surreal, and extremely out of place.

No cars, not a soul on the street, all the shops and cafes were closed. It was a quiet I've only experienced on hikes in the woods.

Not having a television, news of that mornings events didn't hit me until nearly 11am PDT, when I finally reached the art studio and other humans.

That evening, my friends Greg and Ray, called me to play music all night to deal with our trauma and emotions in a constructive way. We played until our finger bled, all the strings broke on the guitars, the drums were thoroughly trashed, our fingers bleeding, and our ears ringing. That nights jam was unfortunately not recorded. A few years later, one of those friends, Ray, took his own life, so duplicating any of those sessions from 9/11/2001 are impossible.

Fast forward to March 2020. The world has gone into lockdown from a viral pandemic. I was really close to joining my friend Ray. Instead I dove into recording and playing music every moment I had. Music saved my life, whether it was strumming a guitar, noodling on analog synthesizer apps, sampling and looping, making beats, creating sound collages...it all worked to achieve the same result - to live another day to create something and connect with the cosmos with my mortal limitations.

This recording is both a requiem for the senseless violence of that days tragic events and the subsequent never ending war, and a tribute to my friend Ray.

Cherish the moments you have with the ones close to you. You never know when they may not be around any more.

Gaines Point Ghost is a simple mix of Smooth Doom Jazz, Plunderphonia, and Sonic Collage.
