DON'T PULL by GAIBON

I thought I was gonna die during the pandemic, so I started this project with this exact song in May 2021 as a means of numbing myself from reality and learning music production.

Everyday I woke up afraid of the limbo and social panic in my country before any vaccines were introduced. It was hell. So I pictured how life would be if I ever found myself in a coma-induced situation, breathing through medical equipment, connected to strings and cords, literally separated from death by a machine and the plug powering it.

Shortly after, a family member got into this exact situation and it was terrifying. His wife was pregnant of his first child and it only got worse over time - he spent almost two months in the hospital, but fortunately survived and is healthy now.

This whole situation also was the spark for me getting married, after a 9 year long relationship. I was so afraid of letting my (now) wife helpless if I died that I needed to feel she could have everything I possibly could provide if I was gone.

So, this song is about a COVID patient fighting to live, enraged at the hopeless political situation we were put through, experiencing chaotic visions during his slumber. It is also a direct reference to 1999 Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, where Raziel, the protagonist, shifts between the Spectral and Material realms, like a coma patient awakens and sleeps over and over.

Ironically, I never caught COVID - not that I know of. At least the fear paid off in that sense. Just kidding, it should not have been this hard.
