Lyrics
I had a turtle and his name was Fred
Didn't see him much he always hid his head
Fred was the shyest turtle I ever knew
But he was also the only turtle I ever really knew
He didn't like the water he just sat around
He was only ever happy living on the ground
I wondered if I had maybe done something wrong
But Fred reassured me I had done nothing wrong
Fred, I miss you when I think of you
Fred, last week I briefly thought of you
Everybody says you shouldn't live in shell
Though Fred had no choice, I thought it suited him well
He tried to run away but he didn't get far
While crossing the street he was struck by a car
I had a turtle and his name was Fred
I don't anymore but that's because he is dead
It wasn't the car it was simply old age
You thought it was the car but it was only old age
