Yellowknife from Big Red by Fun At Camp

the morning quiet is choking down
the words i proofed inside my mouth
with frozen fingers i set out to walk across the lake

eagle dipped, the kingbird frowned
im waiting on the ruby-crowns
and watching men hook rainbow trout to piss the day away

its been to long since i went down
to towner's where the bridge is out
and seen the red starts squirm about in drastic little waves

now, this time of year snow geese fly
high overhead in two straight lines
an arrowpoint the other way from where i should've been

last august came - it passed me by
these ten long months i've been inside
i havent said a word today, just watched tv again

could i have been another guy
with greasy hair and barlight sighs
a cigarette tucked to the side and fighting all my friends

but even when i lost my mind
somewhere out in yellowknife
i found a new one hid behind the time i spent alone

i never go back there in my mind
never go back again
