Wolf from Apogee by Frock
This piece came about through trying to write using more functional harmony and traditional structures, therefore a minor blues seemed appropriate. The beat is quite slow at 60 Bpm, however, with the drums playing double time it almost makes this a piece that should be danced to, in a sensual way. I didn’t believe in this tune at first and almost felt it was a throwaway piece until one of my besties at a recent gig told it was her new favourite Frock tune........but then again she is a bestie after all...............
Frock are on an ecstatic journey of listening, sharing and communicating. When Frock started rehearsing in 1995, their experimental instrumentation caused a stir, in what is now a common place combination - their use of Accordion in Australian jazz was pioneering, and when combined with Vibraphone and Guitar gave them their signature lush orchestral soundscapes.
