SUNKEN MEADOW by Fraction

Just a few months after his DROMOS EP on InFiné, Fraction returns with a daring new project, this time in collaboration with the enigmatic collective known as The Sunken Ensemble.

In contrast to his previous release, Sunken Meadow embarks on a post-hippy, psychedelic journey shaped by free-form experimentation, rediscovered instruments, and unexpected encounters. This spirit comes through vividly in The Prophet (Parts 1 & 2), where Jack Kerouac reads from On the Road, accompanied by custom timbral instruments (Part 1) and a refined lute (Part 2).

As Fraction himself puts it, Sunken Meadow is best imagined as the soundtrack to a week-long story—something to drift through under the stars on a quiet beach. In Incarnadine, that serenity gives way to tension and fury, building through a free jazz crescendo that leads into the final, eponymous track: an eight-minute, haunting journey that unabashedly evokes the spirit of Alice Coltrane or McCoy Tyner.

While DROMOS EP explored the cutting edge of modern audiovisual work, this release feels like a voyage through the 1960s—albeit aboard a spaceship from 2014, searching the night sky for constellations of sound.
Once again, with a very personal production sense, a permanent search of originality, FRACTION keeps on imprinting a territory where nobody goes.

Sunken meadow tells the story of a shelter surrounded by natural forces. It tells the story of new junctions between adventurous musicians. It tells the story of hazardous journey inside a wilderness territory. No boundaries, just imagination.

Fraction is the sonic alias of Eric Raynaud, a Paris-based artist sculpting sound into immersive, spatial architectures. His compositions drift between atonal drone, fractured rhythms, and generative textures. On Bandcamp, he shares raw experiments—echoes of larger works that explore the poetics of space, perception, and sonic matter.
