Progetto Europa by Gianni Fallabrino

"Progetto Europa" is one of the most obscure albums from Italian composer Gianni Fallabrino – released in 1980, it received very limited circulation at the time. While the intended purpose of the music remains unclear – a documentary, television program, or something else entirely – its descriptive nature strongly suggests a connection to moving images.
The result is a sort of concept album that straddles the line between soundtrack and the prog-jazz-funk fusion trend of the era, where the brass instruments and rhythm section take center stage. Anything but monotonous, "Progetto Europa" offers a great variety of themes and styles. On one end of the spectrum are dynamic, energetic compositions that incorporate funk and disco elements to evoke pulsating urban scenarios and nightscapes (as in "Main Titles" and "Airport" ), as well as adrenaline-fueled action sequences and car chases ("Action Theme" and in "City Lights"). On the other, more calming, easy-listening pieces with dreamy, pastoral vibes ("Bucolic Love"; "Along The River") and even some sensual, romantic ballads with soft flutes and female vocalizations ("Promenade"; "Loving").
