Discoteca Dance is a deep dive into the dance-funk sounds of the early '80s, the result of Paolo Zavallone's compositional talent and Mauro Malvasi's masterful arrangements. The album is part of a set of five LPs released between 1983 and 1984 by Paloma Records, a label founded by Zavallone himself. Four Flies is now bringing these hidden treasures back to light through the vinyl release of the compilation Paloma Supersound and the first-ever digital issue of the individual albums.
Originally conceived as background music for radio and television programs, the record features a series of tracks that embody the essence of the Italian library sound of the era, blending slap bass, steady drums, rhythmic guitars, percussion, and melodic synthesizers.
While most of the tracks strongly embrace disco music, reviving the magic of the golden era of funk, others – such as “Police” and “Questura” – venture into urban-crime atmospheres, brilliant for accompanying high-tension action scenes.
More than just a library music album, Discoteca Dance is a perfect distillation of early ‘80s groove – smoothly enjoyable and ideal for a wide range of contexts.
