Shedding Season by fleshport64

“Shedding Season” is my first installment in my body sampling series. In particular, this EP focuses on sampling textures from my hair to document how it transforms under the influence of stress and grief while healing through trauma.

The writing process for each track started with contact mic recordings of brushing through my hair. I captured different motions, velocities, and patterns then fed those textures through distortion, effects, and synth wavetables. These raw textures shaped rhythm, tone, and structure, even when the sounds themselves became unrecognizable in the final mix.
This process was originally inspired by seeing one of Evicshen’s live performances where she used textures from her hair (and many other materials and items) to create a harsh noise soundscape.

I hope to push these ideas even further as my skills and access to tools grow. Due to financial constraints, I mastered this myself.

For years, I survived by disassociating from my body.

My work is a way back in. I'm sampling these intimate sounds to rebuild a relationship with this weird, stubborn vessel.
