Parkside Bulbs by First Kentucky Post

On a whim -- and after being reminded that it was even happening -- I went by Parkside for their blowout party. Always good to see G.T. play -- and it was charming to watch the audience sitting on top of old Hotbox airstream (I miss that burger).

It was a bittersweet hang. Good to see some familiar faces, though. It felt like hanging out there back in the day, before it became insufferably crowded (not to mention the pre-COVID ugliness caused by the former owner). It's strange how different everything feels now -- it feels like this tiny, big city has now retreated to secret corners. It made me both nostalgic and uncomfortable... But I guess that's generally been my current state.

Anyway: This track was recorded either 2009 or 2010 on my couch in Southside. Pretty sure all the instruments came from my phone.
The song was inspired, in part, by a visit to Parkside when it was in its infancy. I thought it was cool to have something like The Garage on the Eastside. They had a bunch of paper lanterns at the time, and I always thought they were pretty. I gave them an MF Doom mask.

It was a good hang for a while. Miss the back bar back when Adeeba and Lauren were holding down the fort. Saw (and occasionally played) some great shows there, too. I still employ a DJ trick stolen from Lee Shook after he played a phenomenal set in the back bar. He knows what it is: I told him, but I'm not telling you.
