We often talk about growth as a path of sorts, from childhood to adulthood, that results in the people we will become. But, how true is this, really? Growth often prioritizes internal drivers or traits like curiosity, determination, faith or resilience, but it is often experiences caused by external challenges, heartbreak and adversity that have the greatest effect on us and our future selves. Sure, we can say that this is all growth in a sense - that all change is growth - but that diminishes the reality of a volatile, chaotic world external to ourselves that is more likely than not to send us into a tailspin, knock us off our course, and throw us to the ground bloodied - forcing us to re-assess our beliefs, who we thought we were and who we should endeavor to be. Humanity is dynamic. We don’t just _grow_ into the person we will become, sometimes we must _change_ to become them.
