When he’s not busy coming up with the blissful indie R&B of his main project, Child Actor, Max Heath explores a different set of influences as Circadion. His self-titled mini-album, released as a free download and limited cassette through Fake Four Inc., collects the best of these experiments.
While bearing some of the musical hallmarks of Child Actor—including some background vocals from lead vocalist Natalie Plaza—Circadion nonetheless takes a distinct approach to songwriting, often owing as much to artists like Neutral Milk Hotel and Morrissey as the hypnotic beat-making for which he is best known. At times Circadion comes off as an ultra-nostalgic alter-ego, but it’s Heath’s own vivid perspective that animates these seven songs that collectively confront the painful necessity of surrendering—memories, lovers, or even the songs themselves—to live on.
