Only You from Ten Songs by Esbe
Part of Jewish heritage is to be aware of the Holocaust. None of my family had been involved, but images from wartime footage, films, and books are extremely distressing.
This song is about Kristallnacht. It represents a specific event which we can all identify with - the destruction of everyday life in a matter of moments. The chord progression and overlaid vocals reflect Ashkenazi songs, perhaps in Yiddish, the only language my grandfather spoke.
