Eric is one of the unrecognized champions of ambient/drone on RYM and yet few people have taken the time to appreciate/listen to his works. Part of this is nature of his releases being very lengthy one-track albums not seen since the 70's through Klaus Schulze albums, but they've also been very good releases despite the dedication of having to listen to a single track for half an hour. Thus patience of the slow pace has been essential for listening to them and that's a burden frankly on the listener.
This time around Eric has doen the natural thing which is to break the album into a longer total listen but also into 4 shorter and different tracks (ok the "last track is close to half an hour and the traditional pace). There is also a slightly different sound to the first couple of tracks. Has Eric been listening to Tim Hecker? Would that be a bad thing? No, not at all as we need more heavily layered ambient /drone that transcends genre restrictions! Either way I'm glad to finally give Eric a well deserved 4 stars as this improvement in format (and also in sound) and is just what was needed.
I'm curious as to what the future holds as continuing this sound could be a problem of repetition of ideas if it continues indefinitely. Obviously my biggest fear is that Eric will release Heroin or Meth the album (what's with all the medication themes?) and we'll never hear from him again. Until then this is him at his top form so I welcome to see what he's got planned next. Stay healthy Eric!"
