My first proper full length CD release as Genophobia. Very proud of this release and love how it all came together. Total gratitude to Matthew Turner for putting it out and Paul van Trigt for gracing the front cover with his beautifully unsettling collage work.
Been sitting on this material for a long time, waiting for the right moment to share it, and that time is now.
Unlike all the previous tape releases, which tended to be spontaneous sessions captured in one take with no post production, each track on "Neurodivergent" was planned out and practiced before recording it (although still done live with no post production).
Obviously I'm biased, but I think this is objectively a great Harsh Noise album. I tried to be adventurous and incorporate some fresh and unheard ideas while also harnessing all the sounds Genophobia has become known for. The main goal was to create an album where each track is different with it's own unique character, and to make something that would hopefully draw the listener back in for repeated listens as the years go by. That's how I feel toward my favorite noise albums, and if this one ever feels that way to someone else then I did my job.
"Branden Diven’s Genophobia returns to Rural Isolation Project with his CD debut Neurodivergent. The sound here is focused and spiraling. Drilling down vertiginous fields of willful neglect/intentional indifference. Not in a hurry. Nowhere to go anyway. Music for peering out miniblinds. Music for those who hold a grudge. You can always count on Genophobia to deliver the raw goods…straight to tape, straight to the heart, but here there is a clear focus and a refinement of aesthetic. Just listen to it. This is the finest statement yet from the project and just a plain old great harsh noise record. Amazing cover art from P. van Trigt." - Matthew Turner
