I built a house, built on sand
mixed with silt, no cement
and it lasted for a year

I tried again with gravel base
sticks and mud and duct tape
though it got me through the month

compensating for shortcomings
you never know what is or is to be
do your best, prep for disaster
and pray the walls will hold

battered by the wrath of nature
my emotion leaves me bare
so I gather shreds of my faith
as I try to plug the holes

I built myself, built with bricks
with no doors or windows
and it should last for awhile
at least until I die
