Soft Biota by Endurance

Soft Biota is my attempt to mimic nature through synthesis, to focus in on micro-ecosystems and the hidden ecologies that pulse and thrive beneath. Picture a damp forest floor, amplified, or the limnal regions of a pond, teeming with secret life.

The images used are cyanotype impressions by Anna Atkins (ca. 1853), made by placing wet algae directly on light-sensitized paper and exposing the paper to sunlight. She described her specimens as "Flowers of the Sea".

Endurance is Joshua Stefane. Born in Ontario, Canada, now based in Nara, Japan. He works as a bioethics researcher and translator and spends most of his remaining time writing science-fiction and composing music.
