Few milestones define the passage to adulthood more precisely and radically than the death of a parent or the birth of a child. In the case of Miquel Alzanillas, the producer who hides behind Emea, both things coincided in time: his father died, after a long illness, a few months before his first child was born, while in parallel he gave the final touches to his first long duration, which inevitably ended up becoming a kind of corollary of the chiaroscuro of an era in which loss and mourning coexisted with the greatest of joys. Both facts are reflected in the title of the album, Fill ("Son", in Catalan), which is as short as it is full of resonances.

Born in Felanitx, Mallorca, in 1985 and in spite of his youth, Emea has become one of the most important and relevant figures in the small but exciting island electronic scene, a lineup that he shares with generation and county partners such as Defled, Mantoshit or Synteck, all of them part of a fifth of producers that shook the local scene from the Mallorcan east side.

In any case, Emea always ate separately of all of them. He was perhaps the furthest from the dancefloor, always with one foot in the sound installation. This vocation explains why he has always found comfort in the theatrical field - he has collaborated in the shows Laberint (2013), Fuga (2014), Jonás (2015) and 78 Diumenges (2017) - or that Agoria considered it, in its beginnings, too "border community" (sic) to publish anything in Infiné.

Who was interested in his work, after publishing a remix of Men With A Plan, was the Partapart label, which in 2013 published his first EP, Mountains & Emotions, with remixes of Sau Poler, Defled and Men With A Plan.

But since then, Miquel decided to retire discreetly to reformulate his sound, questioning the very fundamentals of everything he had done to date, duplicating the self-demanding and reconstructing his discourse almost from scratch.

The result of this process are the tracks that are part of Fill, his debut for Bubota Discos, which shows his more mature, personal and visceral face. Inspired by the organic sounds of jazz and the sonorous landscape of the ambient, Emea shapes a collection of themes where introspection is as important as the recreation of an imaginary horizon where everything is possible and beauty is intimately linked in a cycle of constant creation/destruction. Here resound the old and new gods: Brian Eno, William Basinski, Nosaj Thing ...

But more than a record, Fill is a vital learning process, a dialogue without a clear conclusion but where you can guess a crucial truth about everything that gave rise to it. An abstract idea, not textual, but that anyone can understand and that, like the paradox of facing death and the arrival of a new life all at the same time, contains an intimate and universal look.

And that is why Fill transcends the limits of its own genre and is called to become one of those works that more than a great electronic album is a great album in general. Emea has created something really special. We still don't know what, but anyone who listens to it will understand: Fill is something else. Something else. Like life, like death.
