Lyrics by Alice Chance
If I were to paint a self portrait, I wonder what colours I'd use?
What colour's love? What's misfortune?
How could I choose?
If I were to paint a self portrait, and show it to someone I like,
What would they feel when they saw it? Would they turn and ask me why?
Why I left out all the light?
It's taken some time for my eyes to adjust, sifting through darkness like dust, and I think that I've been alive long enough to know that which I see I should trust.
The brightest, most delicate colours I ever met were hiding shyly in shadow, and even in the dead of night, tiny threads of light would guide me on through the shadow.
The brightest, most delicate colours I ever met: peaches, violets, seafoam, white gold, ochre, lavender, lapis lazuli.
If I were to wake with no vision, I wonder what colours would mean?
What would I see when I called them to mind, would they fade as fast as dreams?
Or would they stay with me, stay with me?
It's taken some time for my eyes to adjust, sifting through darkness like dust, and I think that I've been alive long enough to know how to go on when I must.
The brightest, most delicate colours I ever met were hiding shyly in shadow, and even in the dead of night tiny threads of light would guide me on through the shadow.
The brightest, most delicate colours I ever met: peaches, violets, seafoam, white gold, ochre, lavender, lapis lazuli. Peaches, violets, seafoam, white gold, ochre, lavender, lapis lazuli.
