An inner lift occurred from seemingly difficult circumstances. At the time when this album was beginning to form, I was feeling down and very cut off from my "musician self", and so this project became a way of uplifting my attitude and gaining hope. The idea was to create a vivid soundscape for each song and then play keyboard solos over it, refusing to clean up the MIDI information and leaving the solos as they were played for a more "live" sound. This way of writing allowed for my musician self and producer self to feel balanced, and this balance made composing the album an incredibly exciting (and at times frustrating) process. Inner Lift takes you through the water and onto the land - and apparently ends at a party?? Through the serenity of the ocean to the primal landscape, the world of Inner Lift is meant to cleanse you of negativity by immersing you in soundscapes that paint various imaginary pictures. In many ways, this was a continuation of the concept behind "Small Windows" and is almost like its "part two". Writing these songs forced me to be present in my environment and this process became almost like a meditation. Coming up with the concept for the album cover and daydreaming about this record at a part time job gave me pleasure and got me through many otherwise boring shifts. I hope to have accurately captured both my love for nature and the joy I get when producing or playing music in this album and hope that listeners enjoy the experience this album creates just as much as I enjoyed giving it form.
