Blue River by Edward Givens

This river is born in a cold clear lake fed by glaciers.
It tumbles and falls through time, past flows of lava, through dark
forests of conifers, by turns singing and muttering, roaring and shouting, endlessly in motion, ever changing, everlasting, telling stories both ancient and young. Stories without words.
As a child I spent summers not far from here, living as children do - in the twin worlds of the real and the imaginary. It was easy in such a place. I've returned recently to find again some of what I thought I'd lost, back when I let go of childish things - those melodies of life. I'm grateful for that.
Here I try to retell some of the stories the river tells me. Some are about the people who lived here long before. But most of this music is my impression of the river itself, its melodies, ever changing, everlasting, both ancient and young.
