I need to learn how to stop wasting my time
With epicritic people, pleasing mostly to the eyes
And little else
I covet myself
But when someone doesn’t trust me
I fold into a shell

I need to learn how to start building my time
In complicated rhythms when no one wants to spend the night
And realign
Amity to mine
Just a hand to hold and a spine
To feel pressed up against

When you’re surrounded by the sounds of breaking joints
The bodies, the hunted
Imagine yourself among them
Ah

Alight and seldom
Softly spoken sentiments dictate the plan
Momentary distractor
I don’t know what you’re after
But neither do you know who I am
Nor will you give finding out a chance

I need to learn how to stop holding my breath
And let the water in to find it’s humid air at best
You know the rest
For a while I stay obsessed
Wondering what could have gone better
To exhale is to digress

I need to learn how to stop watering weeds
With weepy little eyes, craving sentimentality
It’s about me
When a twitch is still a seed
Perennial infatuation
Inflorescence
Bloom, marcescence
Convalescent
Shine incessantly

Distance is welcome
When you’re distracted by the waving of the world
The purposeless connectors
In conflict, redirectors
Charge you forward to a place where leaves unfurl
Then in sunshine, absent care, wither and curl

Possessors’ patience
Push avidity from the forefront of your mind
The lively, the sullen
Imagine yourself above them
Ah
