Getaway Blues from Getaway Blues by Eden Brent
The album opens with a honky-tonk piano bass while the right hand mimics the chugging of a train and the toot-toot of its whistle. The riffing piano propels “Getaway Blues” throughout, and I was thrilled when it came to me mere days before recording. Blues shuffles are a favorite, but they can be a bit ordinary, yet the train-like piano makes this a boogie to remember. We decided it would be a good opener and could easily set the tone for the album along with the cover photograph. Loosely inspired by Bob Dylan’s cynical break-up classic “Don’t Think Twice,” when this little red “rooster crows” a much more cheerful “getaway” begins.
