Lethal Growth by ECHOPRAXIA
This album is dedicated to all people affected by cancer. While its existential overtones point to the question “Why something rather than nothing?”, an even more bewildering and relevant question for this album’s addressees is: Why must something so malignant direct its actions against my insignificant, minding-my-own-business self?
Is there any cause other than the combined nature and nurture of our lives — the sickly habits of our peers pushed upon us, and then absorbed into us after the appropriate lapse of time? Or is it something else?
The fact of the matter is that cancer cells are the ones that avoid apoptosis — programmed cell death. In other words, cells that refuse to die become the death of the host. Can we blame these cells, when reflecting on our own human experience in the context of our host — the Earth?
This is not a passing judgment. It is merely a description of the mindset behind a musical backdrop to a struggle within a struggle: to live and let live, or better — to die and let live.
