Lyrics
She went to the mailbox on a cold December morning
It’s been 10 long years Since we spoke on the phone
Her tender heart skipped a beat When she reached inside
A postcard picture with my old-fashioned cursive on the other side
She uncorks the burgundy and sinks back into her favorite chair
Reads about destinations we never did get to share
A distant companion So, you would never walk alone
A tear, and a drop left in the glass, A toast to the nomad who made the world his home
Postcards would bring the world to my door
A glimpse into the places I’d never been before
Recounting of journeys to lovers, family, and friends
And a promise, someday, to be with them again
To live life differently? I don’t think I would
I am still learning to accept the bad with the good
The years rolled by, and postcard stacks grew tall
I’d pinned all your destinations to a faded map on the wall
One last time, I'll look at your life through tears I will cry
Take down the map with a farewell kiss and whisper the hardest word , Goodbye
