i pulled the death card today.
i pull the death card a lot.
i never see it as a curse,
just as a signifier
that all things must come to an end
all cycles must be completed
for new cycles to start
i have grown out from dirt
beneath sidewalk cracks
gawked at by passersby
as an interesting attraction
there’s more to me than meets the eye
but less to me than i get credit for
i’ve watched people i love leave without remorse
i’ve left before i could get left without saying goodbye
i’m made of something that i don’t even understand
and that something guides my brain and my hands
i’ve taken on the name bestowed
to the destructive but necessary forces of nature
but where does my power lie?
is it somewhere between hell and the sky?
i am a version of a version, a copy of a copy
and when you pull the death card,
it’s time to lay some things to rest.
i hope you leave me flowers, but if you don’t, i understand.
i will rise from the ashes of the past seven years
with new wings and horns
i will keep to myself
and you can visit me in my digital urn
i’ll always be there,
even when i’m long gone.
