Battered Huawei by DJ Pitch

All Centre and TT (fka Tobago Tracks) founder DJ Pitch has been quiet since his 2015 release “K1” with long time collaborator Organ Tapes. Instead his efforts have gone into honing two labels with distinct sonic identities which challenge conventions whilst maintaining a connection the dancefloor. The sound of both these labels coalesce and couple with a focus on melody driven composition to form ACEN009 his first solo material in over four years.

A side Battered Huawei begins with fluctuating percussion and an agitated melody floating above weighty subs and a broken snare pattern. As the track gradually builds a hollow synth makes its way into focus, unfolding with swatches of a deeper reverb soaked synth. After a short breakdown a music box synth signals the final charge of the track as melodies weave around intricate drum patterns.

B side Permeation drops 30 BPM and settles on a chugging snare pattern that anchors the track. Beginning with sparse percussion and arpeggiated harps which gradually fade in, these elements are soon accompanied by hazy snatches of melody and dub fx. Tension continues to build until the track dissipate into a warbling synth and core beat with familiar melodic elements rejoining as it develops.
