Mould / Pleśń by Distortia

“Pleśń”, which stands for “mould” in Polish, is a fungus and microorganisms that grow on healthy and valuable tissue due to our inattention, neglect, and forgetfulness. This creates a harmful growth that gradually takes over more areas, like an unrelenting enemy army. It symbolizes all the habits, thoughts, and emotions that poison us, destroy us from within, and become nourishment for the monster spawning inside. The mould is fed with accumulated frustration, unspoken anger, and unexpressed sadness. Namely, all of those feelings and states that we push deep down, not allowing them to ever reach the surface because we are ashamed, afraid, or cannot cope with them. Therefore, we often decide it’s somehow easier to keep them away from the light of day - at least for some time - until they grow so big that they can no longer be ignored.
