I try to read the paper, but sometimes, I just check to see if my father's name appears in the Death notices. Its macabre, but its a kind of impulsive ritual that hasn't really gone away. The price of loyalty is not even understood by those who should understand it most. The outro of flugelhorn and trumpet reinforces the heightened state it puts me in. I think my darkest songs are the best. I don't listen to Okkervil River much anymore, but this song reminds me of their darkness.
