Science Sunday by The Othyrs

Much of their third album, ‘Science Sunday’, was written and recorded when Andy, Alice and James found themselves living under the same roof after Alice completed her psychology degree and James returned to the UK after a year living abroad. With an enforced lockdown also in place, James and Andy recorded everything in their home studio, the majority of instrumentation and arrangements provided by James ahead of Paul adding his signature violin lines and Alice her lead vocals. The family vocal harmony style is also highlighted in songs such as ‘Roses’ and ‘The Gulf of Ewe And Eye’.

The album has been mixed by long term partner and engineer Ant Chapman.

The Othyrs have become a finely tuned organic live group in the years since lockdown ended. In the studio, this has helped turn them into a highly driven outfit, highlighted on songs such as first single ‘Nobody Knows’ and ‘Mustard Buzz’. By contrast, the likes of ‘Pure Adrenalin’ and ’Skimming Stones’ showcase a gentler, acoustic side of this family unit truly making the most of their time, and in doing so creating an album of which they are justly proud.
