Lyrics
You’ve been gone for awhile, so I thought I’d write a letter.
Not so sure what to say. Things have never been better.
I’m coming back out west with a new wife for company.
You asked what she’s doing with me when you saw us on Main St.
I guess I wonder if I’d told you how I felt you would’ve changed your mind. It would’ve turned out well?
Now two years have passed away, but I struggle still with what to say. I guess,
Goodbye. Pleasure to have known you. I really wish you hadn’t done that.
My life is beautiful on paper. You’re dead, and everybody loved you.
Hide-and-seek at the park. The kids are getting so big now.
Whole time hoping they don’t ask why you’re not around.
I would’ve lost my shit. It would’ve been quite a spectacle:
A grown man sobbing behind a public garbage receptacle.
Time keeps passing. Flowers bloom. Stars consume planets and moons.
Outside our skulls it’s an endless void. You beat us there. That was your choice. So,
Goodbye. Pleasure to have known you. I really wish you hadn’t done that.
My life is beautiful on paper. You’re dead, and everybody loved you.
I don’t think either one of us had any belief,
but if you’re somewhere out there and you’re listening,
I hope you’re sitting with your brother on a front porch swing,
just shooting the shit and watching the universe die.
Goodbye.
