Somewhere between birth and death, there is what some may call a meaning
beyond merely repeating endless cycles, a war between self-assurance and self-defeating
its not cinematic, grandiose and its worth or point can surely be debated
unsure myself that its quite the miracle many others claim
but damned if at times I dont feel exhilarated
I still dont love it here, dont dispute
the ugly wretch of civilization still got me gripped with guilt
watched a few come, I've watched plenty go
but far too many never bother to even show
I've seen the walking dead no episode captures who they are
people just too scared to lay suffering bare
easy, fast fix, long form suicide
what I find so interesting is desires to hide
while we play seven seconds of heaven with death
a few dozen, few hundred seasons pass with guilt of regret
as his time drew near I asked my old man what would he change?
He said only that he would talk more to mom on my black belt day
no tears in his eyes up until his rattle shook and his final breath took
only two other times did I ever see him cry
my hand to his shoulder, my hand to hold and grip while he died
didnt care to prolong nor overstay, stayed course of path he set
sought wisdom and growth, never retired from responsibility
to himself his word he kept
raising in turn hopefully, those around and all he met
if at all there is a point, a reason to be
the clearest in view, fight to retain integrity
