Camelot by Dessa

I wrote the lyrics for this song while thinking about how easy it can be to roll through each day as a bystander—alarmed by the worsening state of affairs, but also preoccupied with the demands of quotidian chores and finding refuge in small comforts. I think a lot of us feel uncertain about how exactly one is supposed to effectively resist. As a kid reading textbooks, it all seemed much clearer—at least to me. People picked a side. They were brave or cowardly. But it never really occurred to me how much sheer invention was involved in political resistance. Someone had to say, “How about lunch counters?” The task of dreaming up a plan seems as challenging as mustering the temerity to execute it.
