Unquiet Mind by Denis Larose

Despite the fact that in my late teens, I attained a feeble grasp on the benefits of a quiet mind, free from jibber-jabber and other distractions, I resisted the fleeting urge to go to an Okinawan Zen monastery for instruction. Nor did I remain in Okinawa to accept and easy job playing in jazz clubs. A white guy was at a premium. A black jazz or blues player could command good salaries, being perceived as authentic.Here you get to listen to the results of an unquiet mind cogitating, grounded in the love of Claire, my wife, and my family.
Until this moment, I am still not of the mettle needed to undertake the work of quieting the mind. Sometimes my words quiet the mind of someone who needs some calmness in their life.
Rather, I will continue to exist in a way comparable to "walking Zen". It's just what it sounds like: walking meditation in the manner espoused by my Zen teacher. I humbly propose to you, my friend (all are my friends unless they prove otherwise), that my practice is a "living Zen", a loose master of purposeful living.

Brought up in suburban Boston in the 60s, I began guitar lessons at 11. I learned classical method with Pat Petracca until I was 17, when I moved to Okinawa for 3 years and met many incredible jazz musicians from all over and explored world music in earnest. I dabbled in recording off and on, then got busy with life. In my late 50s, I got the resources and wherewithal to produce music.
