A mesmerizing tale of misplaced identity, “Copper Wires” tells the story of a man addicted to adrenaline induced by mechanical means. Set in Astoria, a sleepy hood in north Queens, the film depicts with brutal clarity, the rise and fall of a reclusive genius as he propels himself into a nightmare of his own making. Following the death of his beloved wife Clara, Doctor W. Warren Gaddis begins augmenting his body’s natural mechanisms by removing his nerves and replacing them with highly conductive copper wires. The effect – as imagined to its ridiculous extreme by writer-director T. Toby Smith – is both haunting and grim. Once the membrane between Dr. Gaddis’s reality and fantasy is punctured…
