This one started late one night in the studio, just messing around with delays. The looping vocals became this suffocating space. We layered in synths that felt like whispers turning into shouts. Someone – I think it was Mark, our synth guy – suggested adding that rising distortion in the bridge; it just clicked. It’s about that feeling of being overwhelmed by your own thoughts, or maybe the internet, and how easily they can twist into something menacing. We wanted to capture that digital anxiety in a track that still had a pop core, but with a fractured edge.
